This has become a rampant problem in this country, evident at Honor Roll Assemblies & soccer tournaments (and such) everywhere. Acknowledging how hard an individual or team has worked to be the best is important. It helps to nurture ambition and self-esteem. Competition is healthy. Giving out empty awards does nothing to encourage an individual to try harder, to be better and belittles those who have.
